the brickskeller
went to the brickskeller this weekend for darryl’s birthday. had a great time. review follows:
the bar is located a couple of blocks from dupont circle, right near the rose park. its in the bottom of an old hotel. the carpet is really tattered and everything is really old. i kind of like that. the bar is a maze of tables, rooms, bars, and so on on two floors. the whole thing has a basement feel, being that it has no windows.
the beer list is incredible here, boasting over 1000 beers from god knows how many countries. the prices aren’t bad at all either. beers start at around 3.50 and go on up from there.
menu is tough to take in. there are a bunch of different sandwiches and steaks, burgers, and buffalo. i tried the burger, which was presented on a cheap, store-bought looking bun, and undercooked, but flavorful. the fries that it was paired with were nothing special but good enough. we also had the artichoke dip which was pretty good (although not my cup of tea). i recommend the cheeseboard, which has a 5 large pieces of excellent dill havarti, gouda, pepperjack, cheddar, and brie cheeses for 6 bucks. quite a bargain.
service was excruciating at times, but i have had far worse. most of the music in the bar was pretty good as well.
i’ll be back before long.
